At Janco Inc. we know that medical clamshell packaging requires an uncompromising level of quality. We are not simply comfortable working on a level where precision is an absolute must- we thrive on it. As a contract medical packaging manufacturer, when it comes down to medical packaging—including clamshell packaging—we are well aware of every pitfall, issue, and concern that must be considered in order to provide the most reliable end product.
Our medical clamshell packaging is manufactured with strict quality controls in mind. Typically a Tyvek ®, polymylar pouch, or foil pouch with a Tyvek ® patch are used in conjunction with the clamshell for sterility purposes.
Typically, medical clamshell packaging is comprised of a base and a lid connected by a formed plastic hinge. However, for the medical industry—even that in itself involves a variety of choices and considerations. Selection of materials is dependent on our customer’s sterilization methods. If an application requires Gamma and EO sterilization, we would recommend PETG material.
On the other hand, every little detail must be considered. For instance, many types of plastic materials used can store energy, which upon opening the clam shell package can propel lighter devices from the package. At Janco Inc., we’ve taken into consideration these small but critical details in order to develop manufacturing and design methods to minimize any inherent unforgiving features of packaging that will be used in a medical setting.
