The Right Materials for Your Product

When selecting a foam for your industrial project, there are a number of factors to consider, including:

  1. Supply chain and accessibility
  2. Cost
  3. Durability
  4. Water and moisture resistance
  5. Mold and fungus resistance
  6. Density
  7. Color

We are available to discuss material options for industrial use in both packaging and manufacturing products, and what materials are the best for the job.

  • Closed-cell polyethylene foam is used for athletic wear, case inserts, padding, and insoles. The preferred brands we use are Zotefoam and Volara.
  • Open-cell polyurethane foam is used for case liner inserts and other packaging.
  • TPO Foams (thermoplastic olefins) are used for padding in computer and electronic device packaging and packaging of delicate products and components.

Finding the right material for your project begins with understanding which materials are best suited for your use.

  • Closed cell: We commonly see this foam used for athletic padding and in medical device assemblies because it is comfortable, resistant to tears, easily moldable, light-weight, has many color options, and is recyclable.
  • Open-cell: This foam type is cost-effective, and is commonly used for padding and protection for fragile products because of its shock-absorption qualities.
  • Non-cross linked: A popular choice for protecting larger, heavier objects because it is impervious to moisture, has good insulation qualities, is shock absorbing, tough and cost-effective.
